Taking better pictures of your items can give you that edge that you need to sell more. Here are 7 hacks to do exactly that.

These days we’re all selling something. And it’s never been easier. All you have to do is take out your phone, take pictures of an item that you want to sell and you’re well on your way to being an entrepreneur. However, because everyone is selling, it can be difficult for people to tell high quality products from the rest. Taking better pictures of your items can give you that edge that you need to sell more. Here are 7 hacks to do exactly that.

1. Use Proper Lighting

One of the most basic things about any type of photography is that good lighting makes for a good photograph. Without good lighting, things won’t appear how you want them to. Even white appears grey if your lighting isn’t good.

So, when you’re considering where to take a picture of your products, it is best to set up your product facing a window. And if you’re able to take a picture of your product outside, you should definitely do that. The best times are early in the morning and late in afternoon; when the sun is out but not too harsh.

2. Use A Tripod

f online business is something that you do frequently, investing in a tripod stand for your phone, or your camera might not be such a bad idea. Tripods can make a big difference in the clarity of your image; they stabilize your camera from your shaky hand. Tripods also take the blur our of your image.

The great thing is that tripods are not expensive. In fact, you can get one off Jumia.com.

3. Take Inspiration From Brand That You Love

if you follow a few brands and you love the way that they photograph their products, you can learn from those brands. You’re not going to be able to take a picture as Samsung shooting its new flagship, but you can recreate the things you love about their image. Looking at brand images will provide inspiration to make your own shot better.

4. Take Multiple Shots From Varying Angles

The more shots that you take, the more options you’re going to have when it comes to choosing the right one. Sometimes when you’re taking a picture, you have an idea for an angle that might work, but the result don’t end up the way that you think. When you take multiple pictures from multiple angles, you give yourself a wider range of options. And it’s not difficult; you don’t have to set up the shot again.

5. Put Your Products In Context

Some products can be photographed on their own and will be fine. However, other products are better photographed in a context where they are being used. For example, if you’re selling a desk lamp, placing it on a desk for a picture might speak more to your customer than placing it against a white background.

6. White Backgrounds Work A Lot Of The Time

The background of your image doesn’t need to be overly complicated; or complicated at all. You don’t want your product to be overshadowed by the scenery. A trick I picked up from a photographer friend is to just use an A4 sheet as a background for small items. You don’t put the sheet on a desk. Instead you tape the top half to a wall, and have the bottom half sitting flat on the desk. You place your item on the bottom half. Don’t fold the bend, and you’ll have a seamless white background.

7. Show The Details

With a lot of products, you can tell the quality of them from their details. So, when you photograph products, you want to get the details as much as possible. That leaves little to your customer’s imagination.
